CONCEPT OF DESIGN : Inspiration comes from the Site
Arches of the Belgrade Fortress have been reinterpreted to form a modern and iconic arcade linking the past with the present and future.
The Green Slopes from Kalemegdan Park have been the main inspiration for creating a green building to expand the city’s natural landscape.
Sava River Waveforms spread inland to create an elevated panoramic walkway integrated with the existing building.
URBAN DESIGN : A Park that brings together Visitors and Local
Kalemegdan Park Expansion to the River Sava by a green roof building that extends the garden and recreational areas of the city. The green skin minimizes environmental impact, preserving the natural landscape of the site.
Urban Connections to the City’s Past and Present where pedestrians can move freely in all directions without crossing with cars and trains. Through a central plaza, the project creates an urban node and a reference point that connects all the spaces.
Scenic viewpoints at different levels that take advantage of views of the river and the city, making the journey a pleasant walk.
Elevated Riverside Walkway over existing Beton Hala building that extends the pedestrian and bicycle paths with panoramic views.
URBAN CONCEPTS : Green Landscape Urban Park for the people Iconic Green Facade & Urban Landscape.
The building itself, creates a new icon for Belgrade integrated to the landscape, complementing the city outline without obstructing existing buildings.
This landmark also preserve the existing urban image, increasing the green landscape with soft transition reconciling the two distinct urban segments: the richly landscaped, park-like Belgrade fortress with the more intensely built, denser urban tissue along the coast.
New Urban Green Park for Belgrade.
The project besides solving the architectural program to increase and enrich the cultural and commercial area of the Waterfront in Belgrade, on the cover creates a new green park for the city accessible to all social, gender, age, and special needs groups.
The new park accommodate attractive uses that make the wider area vivid, bright and safe all day and year long.
Urban Pedestrian Link.
The waterfront center would become a principal pedestrian link between the historic city center and the Sava River with its urban connections.
The project resolves the conflicting traffic claims on the site providing different levels of height by use as solution for the physical barriers between the port and the Belgrade Fortress.
By reinforcing the existing urban node with more spaces for a wide-ranging offer of cultural, gastronomic and entertainment activities, Beton Hala would become a reference point for the local and foreign visitors to start a visit to Belgrade, with an easy access to information about the city venues and events, as well as a place to conclude the visit, enjoying the wide range of activities on site and the magnificent views it has to offer improving dramatically the public space.
STRUCTURAL SYSTEM : Easy Maintenance & Durable Robust Construction
Self-supporting domes Catenary.
The roof structure is designed based on catenary domes of reinforced concrete, giving a greater height to the interior spaces.
Structural grid easy to build.
An orthogonal axes network is designed, where the structure is based on columns and reinforced concrete slabs. This wide diaphanous crosslink allows flexibility to the interior spaces.
High durable Materials with easy maintenance.
The concrete structure allows a versatile and durable construction. Would be used a waterproofing concrete for the Roof garden with an integral insulation and drainage system allowing the topsoil to protect from climate the elements of the structure.
Recycling materials would be used, and high quality and robust construction, allowing even a great architectural value as well as economic aproach.
COMMERCIAL SPACE : Maximum Flexibility
The commercial area is considered, as an open space, for flexibility, to be subdivided as necessary.
It is organized so that there are 2 storefronts, with access from Vojvoda Vojovica Boulevard through a walker porches and terraces of the River Sava.
The business area can be opened to the outside terraces overlooking the Sava River pedestrian walkway over the existing Beton Hala building.
Intermittent Storage areas with independent access directly linked to the commercial area.
The windows on each side of the building capture natural lightning for greater energy savings during the day.
We propose an exhibition area, where the user has a take a path during his visit, and go discovering the different areas in its way. The building has a free and regular structural network giving the space as much flexibility as posible.
The walls of the exhibition area will be created as an acoustic curtains guided on rails on the ceiling, which can expand or shrink the areas for diferent configurations.
Rooms due to its configuration can be lit naturaly with sunlight during the day for energy savings.
Spaces in front of the river has areas of terraces where it can expand and integrate with the outside.
SUSTANAIBLE DESIGN : Sustainability based design
Eolic Energy Park.
Eolic wind Turbines to generate and supply electricity from renewable energy.
Green Roof.
Natural Isolation from Roof garden, wastewater garden and container garden help to provide oxygen and temperature regulation.
Energy Efficiency.
The lowest level is used to allocate energy efficient equipment combined with a high insulated natural skin.
Rainwater Harvesting.
Rainwater is collected and stored to be used in bathroom equipment and landscape irrigation.
Water Recycling.
Grey water is treated in the waste garden and re-used for landscape irrigation.
